North Farm ‘resident elder’, Aunty Bea Ballangarry, has run ‘Story, Place and Poetry’ events a few times now. Each time has been different and each time has been special. Aunty Bea has shared her own painful experiences and shown how, through a variety of approaches from Gumbaynggirr culture, she has transformed them and become stronger and more resilient as a result.
The recent events were beautiful. The environment was stunning, the people were paying special attention and really listening to Aunty Bea, and the kookaburras stayed close by and joined in and laughed on cue.
Aunty Bea will be starting a Story Circle on 31 July 2011 where we can take time to come together and listen – really listen – to each other, and also experience the deeply affirming sensation of being listened to and really heard.
